Pakistan Khappay – We need Pakistan… Yes indeed!!!

To assess what positive or negative impact the excessive use of the term ‘Pakistan Khappay’ can bring, one must know it’s meaning first. Pakistan Khappay in Sindhi means ‘We need Pakistan’, and similarly ‘Pakistan Na Khappy means ‘We don’t need Pakistan’.
These two slogans were used in a manipulative way in the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination when some supporters chanted ‘Pakistan Na Khappay’ in anger, while Asif Zardari replied by chanting ‘Pakistan Khappay’. This incident may have helped Zardari and PPP win the elections, but their government has failed since then on multiple fronts.
PPP and Zardari have faced a lot of criticism from media and masses alike. It seems the pressure was too much to take for Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza, Interior Minister Sindh, when he commented that they were much more determined to chant ‘Pakistan Na Khappy’ when BB was assassinated but for Zardari.
Does this mean Mr. Mirza and his supporters will try to disintegrate our dear Pakistan whenever things don’t go their way? Well the message is very clear. These kind of comments cannot be ignored, not at all! PPP should have terminated Mr. Mirza’s membership from the party, while major national politicians should have condemned this immature statement. But unfortunately we witnessed none.
We indeed need Pakistan. Let’s be very clear about it. No province, ethnic or geographical entity within Pakistan can exist independently. World key players will always look to take advantage of any such situation due to this region’s geo-political location and natural resources.
PAKISTAN KHAPPAY – YES INDEED!!
Before posting my response I’d truly like to censure Mr. Mirza’s statement. The statement was completely immature and exaggeratedly over emotional. This has not only undermined Mr. Mirza’s political integrity and career but also attempted to ruin PPP’s image as largest national political party of the country.
We’ll first have to assess the context and circumstances that gave birth to the chanting of “Pakistan Khappay”, which was truly a sentiment; rather a doctrine of “Pakistan Na Khappay”. If we deny this sentiment to prevail in Sindh, which is well prevailed and nourished like any other smaller provinces of the country like Balochistan & NWFP, then we are in a state of detrimental denial. So, if we believe in “Pakistan Khappay” and its background myth, we’ll also have to acknowledge the existence of “Pakistan Na Khappay” sentiment in these 3 provinces.
Needless to say, that to crush such theories, there has been none other than this high time to prove national solidarity, integrity, and brotherhood through reconciliation, accommodation, and tolerance for which all major parties of the all the provinces will need to come forward and strengthen the system.

Well said Sarmad. I too believe that we need to recognize that such separatist sentiments do exist and instead of just closing our eyes and denying them, we need to get to the root cause and resolve it sincerely.
One more thing, strict action should be taken against those who take advantage of these nationalist sentiments and use it for their advantage.
