Inspite of ball-tempering, Afridi is and will always be a national hero!

Most might not agree with this, but what Shahid Afridi did was not that bad as the media is describing it. Ball-tempering is a form of cheating, and cheating is totally unacceptable. But lets not ignore that the circumstances under which this particular incident took place were extra-ordinary.
Pakistan had lost the test series 3-0, and were heading to another whitewash, this time in the five match ODI series. International and national media alike, headlines was full of criticism and mockery. Afridi is one player who tried his best throughout the …

PIA’s creepy ad from 1979

PIA’s ads have always been innovative and bold, with a touch of Pakistani traditions. I know of one Pakistan International Airlines print ad which has caused debates for all the wrong reasons.
This ad about PIA’s flights to New York was printed in French magazine Le Point on March 19, 1979. Using the World Trade Center (WTC) was an obvious choice as it being a symbol of New York. Pakistan Khappay – We need Pakistan… Yes indeed!!!

To assess what positive or negative impact the excessive use of the term ‘Pakistan Khappay’ can bring, one must know it’s meaning first. Pakistan Khappay in Sindhi means ‘We need Pakistan’, and similarly ‘Pakistan Na Khappy means ‘We don’t need Pakistan’.
These two slogans were used in a manipulative way in the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination when some supporters chanted ‘Pakistan Na Khappay’ in anger, while Asif Zardari replied by chanting ‘Pakistan Khappay’. This incident may have helped Zardari and PPP win the elections, but their government has failed since …

Is Ali Zafar really this irresponsible?

I was recently referred to an article on Ali Zafar’s blog. The article named named “Chal na taeree na maeree” which was written on 6th April, 2009, starts with a verse that goes like this:

Obama’s bill
More to kill
Destroy rebuild, destroy rebuild
Our will
Cut the drill
Let us chill, let us chill.

Although this piece of poetry doesn’t make much sense either, but you still hope if in this article Ali is going to discuss his views on the current situation affecting all of us. But, unfortunately, all Ali discusses in are his adventures …
